Evans Head 10 VS Iluka 5 (6/6/09)

With a season plagued with bad weather Evans River Rugby have finally hosted a home game and also played two weeks in a row. The long weekend had Evans hosting Illuka, although this was a home game it was played at High school due to the Bombers playing at Stan Payne. Evans started well with the forwards holding strong and setting a good platform for attacking raids from the backs.Nathan Gemmell and Ian Patch both scored early for Evans. Missed conversions had the Whales leading 10 nil until Illuka answered back with a try out wide. Also missing their conversion the score was 10-5 at the half.

Defence dominated the second half for both teams. Evans looked to gain good metres from a strong kicking game from Ian Patch and Illuka tried countering with there own kicking game. But Evans held out Illuka to win the game 10-5. Three points and players player was Ian Patch, 2 points to Leon Torrens and 1 points to Ben Lindsey.

Evans River 15 VS Bangalow 24

The following weekend had Evans back at the house of Payne and playing there biggest rival Bangalow. With so much history between the clubs this game was going to be hard contest and from the kick off it was. Punishing runs from both forward packs and expansive rugby by the backs ensured a fantastic game of rugby being played. Bangalow started quickly scoring two tries with a conversion to lead 12 nil. However Evans capitulated scoring twice out wide with Mitch Campbell. The conversions not easy and being missed had the home team down at the half 12-10.

Bangolow started well in the 2nd half again scoring twice, only converting 1 again had the away team 24-10 up. The Whales picked up the intesity and pressure turn into points with Mitch Campbell scoring his third try. The conversion attempt just missing had the Whales 24-15 down but not out. Bangalow had to work extremely hard late in the second half but where to good on the day with the score remaining 24-15 to Bangalow. Three points went to Rob Swinton, two points and players player went to Mitch Campbell and 1 point to Ian Patch.

The Whales play the next match away at Mullmbimby on the 20th of June.
